So you guys might know that I'm a huge freak when it comes to cleaning my makeup brushes. I can't use dirty and bacteria infested brushes, so I clean them every night and then lay them out and there are clean, fresh makeup brushes ready to use in the morning. I have used makeup brush cleanser before, but it cost me like $20, so I prefer using something a little less expensive, and that is...
BABY SHAMPOO!! :D
However, many of you aren't cleaning your brushes the right way and are still leaving countless amounts of bacteria and old makeup on your brushes, which can clog your pores, which we don't want. Still, spending $20 on makeup brush cleanser gives you the same results, but which would you prefer: a $20 product that works, or a $5 product that works just as good?
Here are the directions to cleaning your makeup brushes the correct way:
1. Set out all of your makeup brushes and pick one out to clean.
2. Run the bristles of the makeup brush you picked under WARM (not scalding hot or ice cold water, but lukewarm water)
3. Rinse the bristles thoroughly under the running water. You might notice that the water leaving the brush is tinted from old makeup and whatnot (gross!).
4. Continue rinsing until no color leaves the brush.
5. Set the brush out on a towel to air-dry.
6. When done, you will notice that the brush has regained its shape from being run onto water. You might also notice that there is no more makeup on it. That means you have cleaned your brushes successfully and the right way!
That's five easy steps to getting your brushes healthier and cleaner to use! I will do another post on how I clean my makeup brushes and what I use and whatever :D
Remember....a clean brush is a happy brush! :D
If you don't clean your brushes...
- Your makeup will look uneven and blotchy when applied.
- Bacteria will cling onto the brush and be transferred to your face, making you more prone to breakouts.
- Your brushes may not last as long as they would regularly.
Tips & Cautions....
- When cleaning your brushes, point the front of it downwards so the running water won't seep through the bristles, making them fall out and ruining your brushes.
- LET THEM AIR DRY!!! Do not dry them with a towel because you could take out some bristles and ruin the brush.
- Clean your brushes regularly and don't let them look greasy and dirty and just ugh.
